Happy Holidays from WSLL!
We hope this holiday season finds you and your loved ones well. We are looking forward to the potential of getting together once again as a baseball community!
Although we are in the midst of sheltering in place, the League is looking ahead to spring. We are monitoring guidelines from appropriate agencies (the State of California, County of Alameda, and Fremont Unified School District) for guidance and direction about permitted activities and timelines. WSLL is committed to adhering to all rules and regulations from these entities. At this point, we know from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) website that:
“Inter-team competitions (i.e., between two teams) will not be allowed in California until January 25, 2021, at the earliest… The return-to-competition date will be reassessed by January 4, 2021 based on California disease transmission trends and is subject to change at any time given the level of COVID-19 transmission in California. The website also states that baseball is a moderate contact sporting activity and will be eligible to resume practices once counties are in the Red tier”
Our hope is that the resumption of baseball in some form will be permitted soon. We will send another email in January or early February with more information about potential spring WSLL baseball. It is likely that at least the start of spring baseball will be in a different format than typical spring seasons. It is also possible that the format will change over the course of the spring and/or summer as the public health situation changes.
For now, though, please pencil WSLL into your spring plans, and look for more information in the coming weeks!
